Miami is known for its beautiful sunny weather, but what lays under the surface and should not be ignored are the homeless of Miami at high risks of skin cancer due to increased sun exposure.
A study in Dallas showed that while 52% of homeless people said they often spent time in the sun, just 21% of them applied sunscreen. Just 13% of homeless men had ever received a skin cancer screening by a medical expert, and the majority (71%) had never performed a self-examination for the disease.
Our goal is to bring sunscreen and sun protective clothing to the homeless of Miami. Not having a home should not have to increase one's risk for skin cancer.
